Athirapally Waterfalls – On the western ghats of India

Probably one of the most famous waterfalls in Kerala and India. The Athirapally is located in western ghats of Kerala, India , just few kilometers from Thrissur town.
Athirapally Falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala and numerous Indian movies were taken from this location which clearly captures the beauty of this falls.


More than the height, its the width of the waterfalls (100 meters) that makes this waterfalls spectacular.

the place is well developed and is easily accessible by both railways and by road. The  scenic roads that lead to the falls is usually through forest areas with spectacular views.


The power of nature can be witnessed during peak monsoon season when the water gushes down the rock with sound resembling a thunder.
During peak season, tourists are not allowed to go below the falls to enjoy a swim for obvious reasons.

during the summer season the water level drops drastically and tourists usually are allowed to eneter water. However, be cautious of the slippery rocks covered in algae.

The area is within the forest boundaries. if you are lucky, you will be able to watch some rare and beautiful birds like Hornbills.

to get there, local buses are available from the chalakudy town and the nearest railway station is at chalakudy.
